Test and Essay Items

Developing the proper test and essay questions are vital to proper assessment and and obtaining measureable learning outcomes.  My thought process behind my test and essay questions is that I prefer performance based assessment because it seems to be a more hands on approach and a more in depth evaluation can be obtained through observing.  I don’t look for a right or wrong answer from the essay questionm but how much information the student knows and whether or not they have an understanding of the information they are writing,  I am able to observe and assess whether or not the student has learned and recognizes all the different facets of information taught concerning clocks and telling time.

Learning Outcomes

MEASUREABLE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Grade level:  First Grade

1.  Recognize the difference between an analog and a digital clock

     Test item:  Is the clock digital or analog?  For each clock shown circle the word digital or analog.

2.  Recognize the difference between the long hand and short hand on an analog clock and what each hand represents

     Test Item:  Draw the hands to show 8′ oclock.

                           Draw the hands to show 3:30.

3.  Recognize what time is displayed by the hour on both digital and analog clocks

      Test Item:  Determine what time it is, and write your answer under each clock.

Essay Item:  Submit a journal entry about your experience with clocks.  What type of clock do you like best, and why?  What type of clocks do you have at home?  Are they digital or analog?  Do you have an alarm clock?  How does it sound and what time does it wake you up?
